Leash Walking
Outside is extremely exciting and distracting for just about all dogs. Especially new places. I have a few clients where we put the dog on a long leash and let them sniff wherever they want until they are ready to work. Usually it takes about 20 minutes.
Most dogs naturally walk faster than us making it seem like they are always pulling. But it is possible to teach your dog to stay closer to you, check in more, and not pull you every which way.
Everything smells 1000x more interesting compared to how we smell things, dogs walk faster than us and we keep them on a shorter leash, so of course they are going to pull towards an interesting scent.
Usually I start with the Up/Down Game from Control Unleashed
Then I might move onto either the Superbowls Game (also from Control Unleashed)
or this series of short videos as an introduction to loose leash walking. The links to part two and three are under the embedded video.
